Paperwork Needed to Sell or Buy a Car in New Jersey

1. Vehicle Title

The original vehicle title properly assigned to the buyer.

2. Bill of Sale 

A bill of sale that includes the purchase price and date of sale.

3. Odometer Disclosure Statement 

A completed odometer disclosure statement if applicable.

4. Proof of Identity 

Acceptable forms of ID such as a driver’s license or passport.

5. Lien Release 

If there is a lien on the vehicle, provide a lien release document from the lienholder.
