Paperwork Needed to Sell or Buy a Car in Massachusetts
1. Vehicle Title
You must provide the signed title to the buyer, including the odometer reading and the sales price.

2. Bill of Sale
A Bill of Sale is recommended for private sales to document the transaction details.

3. Safety Inspection Certificate
Provide a valid Massachusetts Safety Inspection Certificate if the buyer is going to register the vehicle in Massachusetts.

4. Lien Release
If there is a lien on the vehicle, you must provide a lien release letter from the lienholder.

5. Notice of Sale
Notify the Massachusetts RMV of the sale of the vehicle by completing the Notice of Sale form.
