Ohio State Tax Incentives for Purchasing a Used EV

Ohio does not currently offer state tax incentives specifically for purchasing used electric vehicles (EVs). However, residents may benefit from other rebates and incentives available through utilities and other programs. Below is a list of incentives and resources available in Ohio for used EV buyers.

Utility Company Rebates

1. AEP Ohio: AEP Ohio offers rebates of up to $250 for residential customers who purchase an electric vehicle (including used EVs). This rebate may be available as part of their charging station program, which incentivizes installation of at-home charging stations.

2. Ohio Edison, The Illuminating Company, and Toledo Edison (FirstEnergy): These companies provide rebates for the installation of Level 2 EV charging stations at homes. While the rebate itself does not directly apply to the purchase of used EVs, it provides an additional benefit for buyers who plan to install charging equipment at home.

Other Incentives and Programs

1. Drive Electric Ohio: Drive Electric Ohio, part of Clean Fuels Ohio, works to promote the adoption of EVs across the state. They provide various resources and tools for EV buyers, including financial calculators and information on charging infrastructure. While they do not offer direct incentives, their programs are useful for understanding the overall benefits of EV ownership.

2. Utility Time-of-Use Rates: Many Ohio utility companies offer time-of-use (TOU) rates, which allow EV owners to charge their vehicles at reduced rates during off-peak hours. This can result in significant savings over time, especially for those who drive EVs daily. Customers of AEP Ohio, FirstEnergy, and Duke Energy may be eligible for these programs.
