How to Transfer a Car Title in Georgia

1. Obtain the Original Title 

Ensure the seller provides you with the original title, properly assigned to you with all necessary signatures. 

 

2. Complete Form MV-1 

Fill out the Motor Vehicle Title/Tag Application (Form MV-1). 

 

3. Provide Proof of Insurance 

Ensure you have valid proof of insurance that meets Georgia's minimum liability requirements. 

 

4. Pay Fees 

Be prepared to pay any applicable title transfer fees, taxes, and registration fees. 

 

5. Visit County Tag Office 

Go to your local County Tag Office with all the required documents and fees to complete the transfer.
