How to Correctly Fill Out a Washington Vehicle Title
1. Seller Information Section
The seller must complete the top portion of the title. This section includes the name(s) of the seller(s), the current odometer reading, and the selling price of the vehicle. Ensure that the odometer reading is accurate and reflects the vehicle's mileage at the time of sale. For vehicles that are exempt from odometer disclosure, check the appropriate box.
2. Buyer's Information Section
The buyer needs to complete their information, including full legal name, address, and driver's license number. This information will be used to issue the new title and registration. Make sure the buyer's details are clear and accurate.
More details can be found here.
3. Signatures
Both the seller and buyer must sign the title. The signature of the seller confirms the release of ownership, and the buyer's signature acknowledges the transfer. In Washington, all owners listed on the title must sign. If there are co-owners, their signatures are also required.
Read more about the process here.
4. Notarization (If Required)
In some cases, a notarized signature may be required, especially for older vehicles or out-of-state titles. Check your local county requirements to determine if notarization is needed.

5. Odometer Disclosure Statement
For vehicles less than 10 years old, the seller must fill out the odometer disclosure statement, which certifies the vehicle's mileage at the time of sale. Vehicles older than 10 years are exempt from this requirement.

6. Release of Interest Form
If there is a lienholder on the vehicle, a release of interest form must be completed and signed by the lienholder to confirm that the loan has been paid off. This document must accompany the title transfer.
Details on this form are available here.
7. Submit the Title for Transfer
Once the title is completed and signed, it must be submitted to the Washington Department of Licensing (DOL) within 15 days of the sale. The buyer should submit the title, pay the required fees, and provide proof of insurance to complete the transfer.
