Connecticut State Tax Incentives for Purchasing a Used EV

State-Level Tax Incentives

Connecticut offers a variety of incentives to encourage the purchase of used electric vehicles (EVs). While Connecticut does not provide a specific tax credit for purchasing used EVs, it does offer other financial incentives.

Connecticut Hydrogen and Electric Automobile Purchase Rebate (CHEAPR)

The CHEAPR program offers rebates for the purchase of new and used EVs, including both fully electric vehicles (BEVs) and plug-in hybrid vehicles (PHEVs). For used EVs, the rebate can be up to $3,000 depending on the type and income level of the purchaser.

Eligibility criteria:

  • The vehicle must be purchased from a licensed Connecticut dealer.
  • The sale price must be under $50,000.
  • Income eligibility restrictions apply for some rebates.

Utility Company Rebates

Several utility companies in Connecticut provide rebates and incentives for purchasing EVs. These rebates can apply to both new and used EVs and can help lower the overall cost of ownership.

Eversource Energy and United Illuminating:

Eversource and United Illuminating offer a rebate of up to $1,000 for used EV purchases. Additionally, both utilities offer incentives for installing home charging stations.
